Social Media Consumption Rises within the IT Community

Within the IT com­mu­nity “social media con­sump­tion con­tin­ues to out­pace edi­to­r­ial and ven­dor con­tent con­sump­tion,” accord­ing to sur­vey results just released by Toolbox.com. In June 2009 they sur­veyed almost 3000 exec­u­tives and pro­fes­sion­als across 109 coun­tries, based on names sourced from Tool­box’ online IT com­mu­nity. Results were reported as Toolbox.com/PJA IT Social Media Index: Wave IV.

In less than a year social media con­sump­tion has increased glob­ally  to 4.72 hours per week ver­sus 3.74 hours per week in August 2008. IT pro­fes­sion­als’ con­sump­tion of social media and user-generated con­tent con­tin­ues to out­pace their con­sump­tion of tra­di­tional edi­to­r­ial media. In North Amer­ica IT pro­fes­sion­als spent mar­gin­ally less time on social media and UGC con­sump­tion: 4.54 hours per week ver­sus the global aver­age of 4.72 hours per week.

Ven­dors take note: IT pro­fes­sion­als glob­ally spend only 2.79 hours per week con­sum­ing your content.
